Thanks to the leadership of Alie Rutty and Bec Patterson, St. John's
welcomed 18 creative vendors and the local community to a successful new
event on Saturday, July 6th, called the "Summer Sweet Tea Craft Show
and Bake Sale." On offer was a range of items from art to knitted goods
to baked goods, a BBQ with burgers and hot dogs, as well as some live
performances. Although the steamy weather, punctuated by a short early
afternoon downpour, kept some people away, the vendors were all happy
with how the event was organized.
A big thank you to everyone involved, especially the dedicated vendors,
many veterans of previous craft shows, including Bec. Thanks to the live
performers, Bradley, Andy, Tia Alandra, Ryan Lokan and Bri Clarke. A
special thanks to Ken Nakamura for manning the BBQ, and to the other
volunteers who made everything run smoothly, including Graham Venney,
Soroush Norouzi, Liam McInnis, Lisa Lin, and Siri, who has also been
helping with the gardens. Thanks also to Andrea and Chris Rutty for
managing a variety of tasks, and to Brad Christakos and Ryan Vandedam &
Claudia Pawlak for the loan of the tents, and to Mark Dizon who offered
unique caricatures.
The event also provided an opportunity to engage with the community
about the current situation with respect to the proposed closing of the
At. john's parish. A special Save St. John's display was set up at the
church entrance that illustrated the many aspects of life at St. John's.
Wardens Andrea and Jennifer spoke with many of the people who came to
the craft sale and they were invited to lend their support to the Save
St. John's initiative.
